Recommend This At-Home Facial to Clients — Using Your Own Skincare Products

Clients may be unable to visit your business, but for many, keeping up with skincare is as important as ever. Help them get spa-like results from the comfort of their own home by recommending an at-home facial regimen with professional-quality products from your own branded skincare collection.

1 | PREPARATION

Aside from the obvious benefits of receiving a professional skincare treatment, getting a facial is always a welcome opportunity to relax. You can create this at home by creating a special ambiance. Use music, candles, or an essential oil diffuser. Take your time. Make it an event.

2 | CLEANSER

Start off by thoroughly cleansing and detoxifying the skin with a gentle cleansing formula. We suggest the Lavender Creamy Cleanser for dry/mature skin types and Chamomile Facial Cleanser for acne-prone or sensitive skin types.

Apply the cleanser to wet face and massage lightly into skin, starting at the chin and working upward in gentle circles. Avoid tugging the skin. Pay attention to areas that are more prone to grease and congestion. Rise with tepid water and pat dry.

Professional Note:

Although oily and acne-prone skin typically benefit from a clarifying cleanser, like Salicylic Face and Body Wash, it may be irritating when combined with the more intense exfoliating products in this facial regimen.

3 | EXFOLIATING TREATMENT

This step will help dissolve the dull, pore-clogging surface layer of dead skin cells, which reveals the luminous fresh skin underneath and allows active ingredients to penetrate deeper.

For most skin types, we recommend using a pH-adjusted micro-peel formula like our Glycolic Gel & Pads with 10% glycolic acid. Skin that tolerates direct acids well may opt for the more intensive AHA Clarifier with 12% glycolic acid. Both formulas incorporate soothing botanicals to neutralize irritation; however, more sensitive skin types may prefer to use the more mild Dual Action Toner & Pads

4 | FACIAL STEAM

It’s a myth that steaming the skin “opens” pores; however, the moist heat does help to loosen any stubborn debris within the pores, as well as making skin more pliable and prepared to absorb actives.

Carefully pour boiling water into a heat-safe bowl and place it on a stable surface. Drape a large towel over your head and shoulders and lean into the steam, keeping your face a safe distance from the bowl – if it feels uncomfortably hot, you’re too close. Steam for 5-10 minutes. (You may wish to set a timer.)

TIP - Add essential oils, herbs, or loose-leaf tea to the bowl for an aromatherapeutic experience.

Professional Note:

For some individuals, using steam (especially alongside exfoliating acids) may exacerbate certain skin concerns; very sensitive, rosacea-prone, or pigmentation-prone skin may wish to skip this step. Recommend at your discretion.

5 | RINSE-OFF MASK

While skin is still damp, follow with a deep treatment mask for your skin’s particular needs. This will deliver a heavy-duty dose of beneficial ingredients and invigorate your skin.

For dry, dehydrated, or sensitive skin types, the deeply hydrating O2 Lift Mask is ideal to quench, revitalize, and oxygenate. For more intense hydration, use the mask while you steam; the powerful humectant formula will draw moisture from the air and lock it into the skin.

For oily, acne-prone skin types, the blackhead-clearing Pumpkin Clarifying Mask is ideal for a final pore detoxifying step. Kaolin clay will absorb excess oils from the skin, while pumpkin enzymes and papaya extract help empty pores, and resurface uneven texture, and luminize your complexion.

TIP - Be gentle to skin. When removing the mask, rinse with warm (not hot) water and pat dry.

6 | SERUM

Your skin is now ready to soak in the powerful nourishing ingredients that serums deliver best. After the intensity of exfoliating and steaming, it’s best to choose a soothing formula that will help replenish and fortify the skin’s barrier, like our antioxidant-rich Vita Soothe. Pat the serum lightly all over your face, including your undereyes. Wait a few minutes for the actives to absorb before moving to the next step.

7 | MOISTURIZER

Finish off your at-home facial by plumping your skin with a medical-grade moisturizer enriched with rejuvenating and protective ingredients, like Ultra Benefits®, which is suitable for all skin types (including oily and acne-prone). Incorporate an eye-specific moisturizer like Ultra Benefits® Eye Gel for the most youthful-looking results.

While applying, use your fingertips to give your face a very gentle, relaxing massage for 1-2 minutes. This will help promote lymphatic flow, support circulation, and keep the skin and facial muscles toned.

TIP - Try putting your moisturizers into the fridge beforehand. The refreshing coolness will help depuff, tighten, minimize pores, and help soothe any irritation.

Like all skincare, this at-home facial regimen works best if it’s tailored to the individual’s unique skin types and concerns.
