As 2022 comes to a close, it’s never too early to start planning your 2023 calendar. In this article, we’ll cover everything that you can plan now to succeed in the new year.
Things to Learn from 2022
If you haven’t already, take a look back on your 2022 numbers to see what worked best and what could have gone better. Make sure you can answer all of the following questions with concrete numbers:
- What were your top 5 selling products?
- What was your top-selling product each month?
- What was your highest grossing month?
- What was your lowest grossing month?
- What was your most successful promo?
Considering these, you can start to ask questions like “what worked, and why?”
As simple as it sounds, repeating and refining successful strategies that you’ve already implemented will have a high likelihood of success in 2023.
For example, if your promo to offer a free product on purchases above a threshold value led to significantly higher gross revenues in one month in 2022, a great next step would be to organize similar promos in 2023.
Identifying your top year-round products will help you keep track of your customers’ favorites, while your top-selling products by month can help find promos to maximize sales.
Planning your 2023 Calendar
The further ahead you plan, the more time and energy you’ll save later. This may sound extreme to some, but we recommend planning all your promos for 2023 now — even through the end of the year.
What do we mean by planning? For example, we recommend creating one central theme per month, like focusing a January campaign on the best moisturizing products to fight winter dryness. Use each theme as the foundation for one promo per month and that month’s content.
Before 2023 even starts, you can plan:
- What product(s) will you focus on selling each month?
- How many pieces of content will you release per month?
- What types of content will you release?
- How will your content pieces align with running promos and monthly themes?
By planning now, you can focus on implementing when the time comes instead of having to prioritize and implement simultaneously. You already have almost all the information you need, so there’s no need to wait until the last minute. Planning ahead will reduce stress and can raise the quality of your content by connecting it with the bigger picture and allowing more time for creating, revising, and perfecting.
No plan is set in stone, and if needed, you can always adjust later. A plan is always moveable. Nonetheless, we’ve found that prioritizing ahead-of-time will help you succeed by giving you more time and context to focus on knocking your strategy out of the park.
