Blending Mineral Formula
SPFs come in all shapes and sizes. The two main types are mineral and chemical, each with its own advantages. Mineral sunscreens like Radiant Shield block harmful UVA and UVB light using physical materials like zinc and titanium. Chemical sunscreens use light-absorbing chemicals to convert harmful light into safe heat energy in the skin. Some sunscreens, like our Ultra Replenishing SPF 40, combine both mineral and chemical sun protection.
You may have seen a big push towards mineral sunscreens from your patients in the past few years. On social media and in popular culture, these chemical-free formulas are thought of as safer. In reality, both chemical and mineral sunscreens are generally safe, but chemical-free sunscreens are sometimes more popular because they are safer for the most sensitive skin types.
One challenge for mineral sunscreens is their texture. Due to their zinc and titanium, almost all mineral sunscreens on the market today are pasty and opaque, giving them an undesirable appearance when applied to skin.
This is where Radiant Shield shines: it is one of the first mineral sunscreens ever created with a silky, transparent consistency that glides onto skin. With Radiant Shield, they don’t have to. With rose and lavender essential oils and no artificial colorants, Radiant Shield has a soft, pleasant fragrance. Patients won’t be disturbed by their sunscreen’s odor; instead, they’ll enjoy wearing it at all times.
Anti-Aging Tinted Moisturizer
Radiant Shield is so much more than just an SPF. We like to think of it as an anti-aging tinted moisturizer, since it has so many youth-promoting protective and hydrating benefits.
All patients want more youthful skin. Damage from harmful UVA and UVB contributes to photoaging, but they’re not the only causes. Blue (high-energy visible) light from both digital screens and the sun is also a major contributor to skin aging, and can cause damage at deeper levels of the skin. Environmental pollution and free radical damage from small particles in the air is another major concern, both indoors and outdoors.
