Four Simple Steps to Help Treat Rosacea

Four Simple Steps to Help Treat Rosacea

Rosacea, a condition where skin becomes irritated and develops red, pink or purple patches, affects over 16 million Americans, and its appearance can be a painful detriment to patients’ self-esteem and confidence.

April is Rosacea Awareness Month, and skincare providers and patients alike are paying closer attention to the causes and treatments for red and rosacea skin.

Causes of Rosacea

The skin grows more prone to redness and rosacea as it ages. Patients in their 20s and 30s may begin observing darkening and red patches on their skin, but the symptoms may not be severe enough for them to act. However, if left untreated, rosacea worsens – so identifying and treating it early is essential.

While not all the causes of rosacea are known, harmful environmental conditions have been shown to worsen it. Sun exposure and environmental damage from free radicals can cause patches to grow and spread, so it’s imperative that patients protect against further damage.

Red and rosacea skin is typically inflamed and irritated, and products that calm the skin also help to reduce redness.

Treatments for Rosacea

Patients with red or rosacea skin need to start taking steps to treat it as soon as possible; otherwise, their condition will only worsen. There are a few key focus areas for treatment.

Apply a gentle cleanser twice daily. Cleansers help remove damaging debris from the skin surface and pores. However, many cleansers on the market today contain harsh alcohols, acids and chemicals that will only cause more damage for rosacea skin.

We recommend: Chamomile Facial Cleanser, a gentle, sulfate-free and alcohol-free cleanser that penetrates pores and removes debris as small as PM0.1 while deeply hydrating and protecting with red algae extract.

Soothe and nourish. Reduce irritation and inflammation by providing skin with essential vitamins and oils, helping cells protect themselves and repair damaged skin.

We recommend: Vita Soothe, a lipid-rich serum with vitamins E and F, which sustain skin and enhance repair and Lipochroman®, the strongest antioxidant on the market with triple-protection against carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen free radicals. Another of our serums, C-Stem® also has excellent anti-inflammatory properties, using lilac stem cells, vitamin C, and gene modulators to support healthy, youthful skin.

Keep skin hydrated. Dry skin is much more prone to irritation, and it’s harder to provide moisture to irritated red patches even though it’s essential for them to heal. A strong moisturizer quenches and sustains the skin in these areas.

We recommend: Ultra Benefits®, a powerful moisturizer containing Lipochroman® and Chromabright® – two essential ingredients for treating rosacea by protecting and evening skin tone. Vita-C Peptide Spray is another lightweight moisturizing product that helps hydrate while adding additional protection with vitamin C and reducing inflammation with an aromatherapeutic refresh.

Protect against further damage. Rosacea skin is even more sensitive to sun and environmental exposure, which cause irritation to worsen and redness to spread. Products should protect against UVA, UVB, and HEV light along with environmental pollution.

We recommend: Radiant Shield SPF 40, a tinted anti-aging moisturizer with global protection against UVA, UVB, HEV, and IR light and environmental pollutants. Radiant Shield contains Ectoin®, a small molecule ingredient that sustains skin for lasting hydration, protection against microparticle pollution, and protection against HEV and IR light, along with Lipochroman® and zinc oxide to protect against free radical and UV damage, respectively.
