Protection For The Summer Sun: Comparing Our Sun Protection Products
Sunlight can be harmful to skin in a few ways. It contains UVA and UVB light, which are both high-energy and irritating to skin cells. Recently, scientists discovered another damaging type of light: high-energy visible (HEV) light. HEV light is found everywhere: besides coming from the sun, it is constantly emitted by electronic devices, meaning we are constantly exposed to it. It penetrates the skin even deeper than UVA and UVB, reaching the lower levels of the hypodermis and causing damage there. The most prevalent result of HEV exposure is skin discoloration, including dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Studies have also linked HEV to wrinkles, loss of firmness, loss of elasticity, dryness, uneven texture, and other visible signs of photoaging.
